Miracle of Morgan's Creek, The (1944)This is another funny film by director Preston Sturges (who also received an Oscar nomination for his screenplay for this one), though Eddie Bracken may get on your nerves. Betty Hutton plays a girl in a small town that wakes up married, pregnant, and clueless after a night of partying with troops headed overseas. Bracken is the local boy, ineligible for military service who's always loved her and tries to help. Solid support is provided by Sturges' usual cast (William Demarest, Porter Hall, Victor Potel, Brian Donlevy, Al Bridge, Emory Parnell, Akim Tamiroff, etc.) as well as Diana Lynn. Added to the National Film Registry in 2001. #54 on AFI's 100 Funniest Movies list. |
