In A Lonely Place (1950)

A great film by director Nicholas Ray which gives a behind the scenes look at Hollywood. Humphrey Bogart plays a haunted, impulsive, violent, out of work writer. He meets a girl (Martha Stewart), who works in a restaurant, that has written a trashy novel. After he has had her to his apartment to narrate the details for him, she is found murdered. Naturally, Bogart is suspected. However, a beautiful blonde neighbor of his (Gloria Grahame) provides him with an alibi. This leads to a romantic relationship between the two. His agent has trouble finding work for Bogart and, as their relationship matures, Grahame sees how paranoid and frightening he can be.

Added to the National Film Registry in 2007.
