Bringing Up Baby (1938)

A terrific screwball comedy, the first of five films with director Howard Hawks and actor Cary Grant, and another of the great Katharine Hepburn pairings with Grant. Hepburn is an heiress who runs into museum curator Grant, who needs one more bone to complete his dinosaur skeleton display. She owns a tame leopard pet, but there's an identical wild one on the loose. Of course, some romantic entanglements occur. Plus, a dog finds (and hides) Grant's bone. Though the movie bombed at the box office, it's now regarded as a classic, and a timeless example of the genre. Hagar Wilde adapted his story for the screen, with help from Dudley Nichols (The Informer (1935)). Added to the National Film Registry in 1990. #97 on AFI's 100 Greatest Movies list. #14 on AFI's 100 Funniest Movies list. #51 on AFI's 100 Greatest Love Stories list.
