Paths of Glory (1957)A great World War I film by Stanley Kubrick (2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)), who co-wrote it with Calder Willingham (The Graduate (1967)) & Jim Thompson. Three time Oscar nominated Best Actor Kirk Douglas gives his usual (a gripping, gritty performance) as a field leader caught between his men (like Ralph Meeker & Richard Anderson - TV's The Six Million Dollar Man’s Oscar Goldman) and inexplicable orders from above - Adolphe Menjou (The Front Page (1931)) and George Macready. This film was added to the National Film Registry in 1992. |
