Day of the Jackal, The (1973)

This film is a faithful adaptation of the engrossing Frederick Forsyth novel about an assassin, by director Fred Zinnemann. The movie is a very good one, but unfortunately didn't do very well at the box office, in part because the director turned down Michael Caine in favor of an unknown face for the lead character (Edward Fox). Received an Academy Award nomination for Editing.
