Platoon (1986)

This anti-war film marks the second bad choice for Best Picture of the year in a row. Oscar winning director Oliver Stone's (Michael Moore's role model?) semi-autobiographical account of his experiences in Vietnam is about as honest as its polar opposite, the John Wayne movie The Green Berets (1968). Perhaps it was a final purge of guilt for Academy voters? Supporting Actor nominations for rival characters played by Tom Berenger (his only one to date) and Willem Dafoe. #83 on AFI's 100 Greatest Movies list; #72 on AFI's 100 Most Heart-Pounding Movies list.
