Bullitt (1968)

A large portion of this film is consumed by one of the best car chases ever released on film.  I think I actually like the one in The Seven-Ups (1973) better, though I prefer Steve McQueen to Roy Scheider.  This one also stars Robert Vaughn, Jacqueline Bisset, Robert Duvall, and Norman Fell. It won the Best Editing Oscar; and was nominated for Best Sound. Directed by Peter Yates, it’s #36 on AFI’s 100 Most Heart-Pounding Movies list.

Added to the National Film Registry in 2007.
