Easter Parade (1948)
Fred Astaire is in love with the dancing partner he believes he "created", Ann Miller. When she makes plans to go it alone, he sets out to prove he can replace her and picks a nobody (Judy Garland) as his new partner. Gee, ya think they'll succeed? Peter Lawford plays a wealthy friend whose character gets into a quasi love triangle with the ladies; Jules Munshin plays a humorously frustrated French waiter. Famous for the Irving Berlin title song (at the end of the movie), the film's Score won Johnny Green & Roger Edens their first Oscars. Directed by Charles Walters, years before he would receive his only Oscar recognition for Lili (1953). Sidney Sheldon (The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (1947)) co-wrote the screenplay with husband & wife collaborators Frances Goodrich & Albert Hackett, on who's story it was based. Features a very creative dance sequence with Fred Astaire in a toy store with drums.
