Sundowners, The (1960)

A terrific period piece about a family of drovers (sheep herders) in Australia in the 1920's and the struggle within the family between those that want to settle down, mother (Deborah Kerr) and son, vs. the father (Robert Mitchum) that doesn't. Peter Ustinov plays a British drifter who joins them; Glynis Johns, a woman for him. A 4 star film by director Fred Zinnemann, who received Oscar nominations for Best Picture & Director. Isobel Lennart's adaptation of Jon Cleary's novel was also nominated, as were Kerr (her sixth, and final Best Actress nomination without winning the award) and Johns (her only).
