Professionals, The (1966)Wealthy Texan Ralph Bellamy hires four mercenaries (Burt Lancaster, Lee Marvin, Robert Ryan, and Woody Strode) to rescue his wife (Claudia Cardinale) from a Mexican bandit, Jesus Raza (Jack Palance). However, all is not what it appears to be. Firstly, Lancaster & Marvin's characters participated with Palance's character in the Mexican revolution, and Cardinale's may not have been kidnapped after all. Directed by Richard Brooks (Elmer Gantry (1960)), who received Oscar nominations for directing & writing (adapting Frank O'Rourke's novel for the screen); the film also received a nomination for Conrad Hall's Color Cinematography. |
