Heiress The (1949)

Heiress The (1949)

An outstanding film by director William Wyler featuring Olivia de Havilland (To Each His Own (1946)) as a homely (you’ve got to see it to believe it) young woman living at home with her wealthy father (Ralph Richardson) who enforces her insecurities for his own selfish purposes. Their conflict comes to the surface when she is courted by a handsome young man (Montgomery Clift) her father is convinced is only after her inheritance. But she is encouraged by a family friend (Miriam Hopkins) and her own loneliness. Academy Awards for Ms. de Havilland (on her last Best Actress Oscar nomination) B&W Art Direction & Costume Design and Musical Score. Academy Award nominations for Richardson B&W Cinematography and Wyler (Best Picture & Director). Added to the National Film Registry in 1996.
