Dr. Ehrlich’s Magic Bullet (1940)
Dr. Ehrlich’s Magic Bullet (1940)
Terrific true story of the man who fought against his peers and public opinion to find a cure for syphilis. The Screenplay was Oscar nominated and co-written by John Huston (his first Academy recognition) Heinz Herald (The Life of Emile Zola (1937)) and Norman Burnstine (his only nomination). Edward G. Robinson plays the title role Ruth Gordon plays his wife. The rest of the cast is terrific too including Otto Kruger Donald Crisp Maria Ouspenskaya Montagu Love Sig Ruman Donald Meek Henry O’Neill Albert Bassermann Harry Davenport Louis Calhern Charles Halton and Irving Bacon (among others). Directed by a man who knows how to tell these kind of historical biographies William Dieterle (The Life of Emile Zola (1937)).
