This is the original version of what was later remade as His Girl Friday (1940) by Howard Hawks with Cary Grant Rosalind Russell and Ralph Bellamy is quite good in its own right. This comedy stars Pat O’Brien (in the Rosalind Russell role) Adolphe Menjou (in the Cary Grant role) and Peggy Grant (in the Ralph Bellamy role) roughly. O’Brien is Menjou’s star reporter who wants to marry Grant (Peggy;-) and move taking another job. As his editor Menjou tries everything to keep him from leaving. Edward Everett Horton Mae Clarke and Frank McHugh among others provide support. The film produced by Howard Hughes was nominated for an Oscar as Best Picture; Menjou received his ONLY Oscar nomination (Best Actor in a Leading Role) and Lewis Milestone – (Two Arabian Knights (1927) & All Quiet on the Western Front (1930)) was nominated for Best Director; co-written by Ben Hecht.
