Ladykillers The (1955)

NOT to be confused for the Coen Brothers-Tom Hanks remake (in name only) of 2004! Alec Guinness is the leader of a gang of unusual characters criminals who plot their next “job” while living in a boarding house run by an old (and slightly deaf?) woman played by Katie Johnson. In order not to arouse her suspicions they pretend to be musicians. However when she gets suspicious they decide that they must do away with her. The bumbling gang includes Peter Sellers Cecil Parker and Herbert Lom from the Pink Panther series. More fun than a barrel of monkeys! One of the many Ealing Studio gems. William Rose received an Academy Award nomination for Best Writing Original Screenplay; directed by Alexander Mackendrick (The Man in the White Suit (1951)).
