Schindler’s List (1993)

Schindler’s List (1993)

Haunting awesome (I guess this Spielberg kid can direct) real story about the Holocaust. The first B&W (black & white) film to win the Best Picture Oscar since 1960. Liam Neeson’s title character is AFI’s #13 hero; Ralph Fiennes’ Amon Goeth is AFI’s #15 villain – both were nominated for Oscars. Director Steven Spielberg finally broke his Oscar jinx winning Best Director honors; the film also won for Screenplay Writing and received four other Oscars. #9 on AFI’s 100 Greatest Movies list. #3 on AFI’s 100 Most Inspiring Movies list. Added to the National Film Registry in 2004.

Synopsis (from Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s 20th Anniversary press release) – Adapted from a novel by Thomas Keneally the film tells the true story of Oskar Schindler (Neeson) who even though he was initially a member of the Nazi party risks his life and career to employ 1100 Jews in his crockery factory during the Holocaust. His Jewish accountant (played by Ben Kingsley) serves as his conscience while Schindler conducts business with an especially cruel Nazi commander (Fiennes).
