Diary of Anne Frank The (1959)

This powerful film features Millie Perkins in the title role of the story everyone should know. Joseph Schildkraut (The Life of Emile Zola (1937)) plays her father and Shelley Winters won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for playing Mrs. Van Daan the mother of another family who shares the hidden apartment with the Franks. The rest of the cast is terrific too including Lou Jacobi as Mr. Van Daan Richard Beymer (West Side Story (1961)) as their son and Ed Wynn (also Supporting Oscar nominated) in a serious role as another Jew hiding from the Nazi’s with the Franks & Van Daans. Director George Stevens also received an Oscar nomination; the film won for B&W Art Direction & Cinematography. #18 on AFI’s 100 Most Inspiring Movies list.
