Directed by Terence Young (Dr. No (1962) Thunderball (1965)) with a screenplay and adaptation by Richard Maibaum and Johanna Harwood (respectively) this is the second James Bond Agent 007 (AFI’s #3 hero) film; the character and novel are from Ian Fleming. Starring Sean Connery it’s the first to feature gadget man ‘Q’ aka Major Boothroyd (Desmond Llewelyn) and is noteworthy for its villains: Rosa Klebb (Lotte Lenya) the poisoned toe kicking Russian Colonel (defector to SPECTRE) and Robert Shaw as the assassin Red Grant/Captain Nash. Daniela Bianchi plays Bond girl Tatiana Romanova and Pedro Armendáriz plays Ali Kerim Bey Bond’s associate in Istanbul Turkey. Bernard Lee plays ‘M’ and Lois Maxwell is his secretary Miss Moneypenny.
