The first sequel to win the Academy Award for Best Picture another very popular "family" film. Five acting Oscar nominations (including Al Pacino Michael V. Gazzo Lee Strasberg and Talia Shire) but only Best Actor Robert DeNiro took home the (supporting) gold on his first nomination. Director Coppola won the Best Director Oscar and shared Adapted Screenplay Writing Oscar with novelist Mario Puzo. Added to the National Film Registry in 1993. #32 on AFI’s 100 Greatest Movies list. Pacino’s Michael Corleone is AFI’s #11 villain. "Keep your friends close but your enemies closer." is #58 on AFI’s 100 Greatest Movie Quotes list.
